USPC Drug Testing Policy

Important: A lifter competing in the non-tested division is not assumed to be using any banned substances.

Drug Tested Division

  • United States Powerlifting Coalition (USPC Tested) offers drug testing at most sanctioned events.
  • The drug tested option must be selected during online registration and cannot be added later.
  • Not all meets offer a tested division – please check the registration page for each meet.
  • Drug tested lifters are only eligible for drug tested awards and records unless a separate registration is paid to also compete in the non-tested division.

Testing Procedures

  • Lifters do not pay for their individual tests if chosen.
  • Testing is performed only at the meet.
  • If a lifter is not present when called for testing, it will be deemed a failed test.
  • Drug testing will be performed by USPC personnel using USPC-approved testing supplies.
  • No outside tests will be accepted.

  • Single lift competitors who break National Records will be tested at meet director discretion.
  • All-time world records will always be drug tested.

Appeals & Suspensions

  • A lifter has 30 days to appeal a failed test.
  • All failed drug tests will be made public once the 30-day appeal period has expired or after a failed appeal attempt.

Suspension Structure

  • First Offense: Six-month suspension
  • Second Offense: One-year suspension
  • Third Offense: Lifetime ban from USPC Tested meets

Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE)

The USPC offers a Therapeutic Use Exemption. Please submit your TUE request no later than 30 days prior to the meet.
